About the Iris

The iris is one of the most complex and distinctive structures in the human body. Formed before birth, its intricate fibers, textures, and color variations are never repeated—not even between identical twins.

Eye color is influenced by melanin, a microscopic pigment within the iris. Higher concentrations create darker tones, while lower levels allow lighter hues to emerge. The way this pigment is layered and dispersed gives every iris its unique character.
Some individuals have heterochromia, a rare variation where two irises—or sections of a single iris—display different colors, further highlighting the diversity found in human eyes.
